📖 Story

Lucas loved stars. Every night, Lucas looked at twinkly stars from his window. Twinkle, twinkle, little star. Lucas had a little rocket toy. Red rocket. Soft rocket. Lucas hugged his rocket tight.

"I wish I could fly to the moon," Lucas whispered to his rocket. "Up, up, up to the moon."

Lucas's mommy tucked him into bed. Soft blanket. Warm blanket.

"Goodnight, Lucas," Mommy said. She gave Lucas a kiss. "Sweet dreams."

"Goodnight, Mommy," Lucas said. He held his rocket close.

When the room was dark and quiet, something magical happened. Lucas's rocket began to glow. Glow, glow, glow. Soft light. Warm light.

"Hello, Lucas," said Rocket in a gentle voice. "Would you like to fly to the moon tonight?"

Lucas nodded. "Yes, please." His eyes were big and round.

"Close your eyes and count to three," said Rocket. "One... two... three..."

Lucas felt his bed floating up, up, up. Slowly, gently up. The ceiling opened like a door, and they floated through.

Up, up, up they went. Past the clouds. Fluffy clouds. White clouds. Lucas felt the cool night air on his cheeks.

"Look, Lucas," said Rocket. "Stars!"

Stars everywhere. Twinkly stars. Bright stars. Stars that sparkled like tiny lights.

"Hello, stars," Lucas waved. The stars twinkled back at him.

They flew past the moon. Big moon. Round moon. Glowing moon.

"Moon is saying hello," Rocket said. The moon smiled at Lucas. Lucas smiled back.

They flew to a purple planet. Soft purple. Pretty purple.

"Someone lives here," Rocket whispered. "A friendly someone."

A little green alien came out. The alien had three eyes. Blink, blink, blink.

"Hello," said the alien in a soft voice. "My name is Bloo."

"I'm Lucas," said Lucas. "This is my rocket."

Bloo gave Lucas a star cookie. Yummy cookie. Sweet cookie. Lucas took a tiny bite.

"Thank you," Lucas said. Mommy always said to say thank you.

Next, they visited a blue planet. Shiny blue. Ocean blue.

There, they met Glup. Glup had four arms. Glup gave Lucas a hug with all four arms. Warm hug. Safe hug.

"Would you like to see my bubbles?" Glup asked.

Lucas nodded. Glup blew bubbles from a silver wand. Rainbow bubbles. Floating bubbles.

Lucas and Rocket visited many planets. They saw dancing stars and singing moons. They saw space butterflies with wings that glittered.

After a while, Lucas's eyes felt heavy. Heavy, heavy eyes. Sleepy eyes.

"Time to go home," Rocket said gently. "Take a deep breath in."

Lucas took a deep breath in. In, in, in.

"Now let it out slowly," Rocket said.

Lucas let his breath out. Out, out, out.

They floated back through space. Stars waved goodbye. Moon blew a kiss.

Down, down, down they went. Through the clouds. Past the birds. Back to Lucas's bedroom.

Lucas felt his bed become still. His rocket toy was in his arms. Soft rocket. Warm rocket.

Lucas's room was cozy. His blanket was snuggly around him. His pillow was fluffy under his head.

Lucas could hear Mommy and Daddy sleeping in their room. Safe sounds. Home sounds.

"Did you have fun?" Rocket whispered.

"Yes," Lucas said with a sleepy smile. "Thank you for the trip."

"We can go again another night," Rocket said. "But now it's time to sleep."

Lucas felt warm and happy. He thought about his new friends in space. He thought about the moon's smile. He thought about star cookies and rainbow bubbles.

His eyes grew heavier and heavier. Heavy, heavy eyes. Sleep was coming.

"Goodnight, Rocket," Lucas whispered.

"Goodnight, Lucas," Rocket whispered back. "Sleep tight."

Lucas closed his eyes. His breathing became slow and deep. In and out. In and out.

In his dreams, stars sang lullabies and moons rocked gently. In his dreams, Lucas floated in a sea of stardust, warm and safe.

And as Lucas slept, his rocket watched over him. All through the quiet night. All through the peaceful night. Until morning came with golden light.

But that's another story, for another day. Now it's time for sleep. Gentle sleep. Sweet sleep.

Goodnight, little one. Goodnight.
